Whinfell students had an incredible experience at the Furness Education & Skills Partnership (FESP) STEM Fair 2026, immersing themselves in a wide array of exciting and educational activities designed to spark curiosity and develop essential skills.
听
The event featured hands-on opportunities ranging from exploring DNA and biosciences to engaging in engineering challenges. Pupils put their problem-solving abilities to the test with Brain Games, mastered controlling a robot arm via a gaming controller, and delved into Maritime Skills and Marine Conservation. A standout experience was the VR simulation, which allowed students to step into the shoes of industry professionals such as windfarm engineers, welders, and electricity distribution specialists.

Students also embraced the 鈥淟ight but Strong Challenge,鈥� where they built and stress-tested structures to understand the properties of materials. Additionally, Earth Sciences captivated attendees, offering insights into our planet鈥檚 natural processes. Interactive puzzles and scale 3D models further enriched the learning experience by demonstrating key principles of engineering and design.

The fair was supported by a host of prominent organisations including Oxley, Siemens Energy, Vattenfall, Morgan Sindall, Kimberly-Clark, BAE Systems, Laing O鈥橰ourke, and Furness College, alongside Lancaster University, The University of Cumbria, and many others. Their interactive stands provided valuable insights into the skills and career opportunities available within STEM industries.
